What does it mean to be a disciple of God, and how is this related to our call to Stewardship?
What does it mean to foster a vibrant faith community, and how can we each give of ourselves to nurture that spirit in one another?
As baptized brothers and sisters in Christ, we are called to the momentous task of carrying on Jesus' mission of discipleship, prayer, love, compassion, and giving. Jesus chose a group of disciples to follow him and learn from his teachings, and then instructed them to go into the world to share that knowledge and love with others. They carried their faith across centuries and across lands and seas. We at Immanuel inherited this rich tradition from those who followed the first disciples thousands of years ago, speaking the same words they spoke as they shared communion with one another in the early days of Christianity.
We are each part of this legacy and part of the miracle of faith. As Father Keene states in his sermon on the Feast of the Dedication, we are each a gift given by God and are the living stones of the church. To be a disciple is to be a steward and to give generously of ourselves in service to one another and to God. As we consider our role as stewards and our pledge for the next year, it is the committee's hope that we keep this notion chiefly in mind – we are each a gift and we are each a blessed disciple of Christ. Stewardship is about how we live fully into this mindset.
As you consider your individual pledge, we invite you to speak with members of the ministry about any questions you may have regarding stewardship and giving. We look forward to joining with you as we each make our annual commitment to our church home.
Faithfully,
Immanuel Church Stewardship Ministry
Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service, you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already.” – C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
